T20 World Cup: 3 players became champions without playing… 2 cricketers were together all the time, but their luck was not like this

New Delhi. Whenever you see the pictures or videos of India becoming the world champion, you will not be able to tell which player’s contribution is more or less in making the team win. Everyone’s face reflects equal happiness and pride. And why not. This is such an achievement which has been achieved for the first time in 13 years. In the 51-year history of the World Cup, this was only the fourth time we became champions. When India won the World Cup for the first time in 1983, Sunil Valson did not get a chance to play even a single match. There were 3 such players in the Rohit Brigade who did not get a place in the playing eleven even once. These players were Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

India has won the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. India defeated South Africa by 7 wickets in the final. India played a total of 8 matches in the World Cup held in West Indies-America and won all of them. In these 8 matches, 12 players got a chance to play on the field and they gave India victory with full strength. But Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal did not get a place in the playing eleven even once.

Yuzvendra Chahal was the second specialist spinner in the team. Kuldeep Yadav was the first. Kuldeep performed so well that Rohit Sharma did not feel like going for another specialist spinner. The case of wicketkeeper Sanju Samson is also similar. Rishabh Pant performed better than expected and Samson remained on the bench. This is the second consecutive World Cup when Yuzvendra Chahal was selected in the team but could not make it to the playing eleven.

Before leaving for the T20 World Cup, Yuzvendra and Sanju must have known that they would hardly get a place in the playing eleven. But this is not the case with Yashasvi Jaiswal. he/she is the specialist opener of the team. Apart from Rohit, he/she was the only specialist opener in the team. In such a situation, Yashasvi must have been expecting a place in the playing eleven. But captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid had a different plan, which Virat Kohli proved right. Virat was fielded as an opener and he/she played an invaluable innings in the final.

2 players remained with the team, but will not be called champions
Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed were also with the Indian cricket team during the World Cup. Both these players were sent with the team as reserve players. In this way, both Rinku and Khaleel witnessed India’s victory. However, due to not being a part of the 15-member team, the title of World Champion will not be attached to the names of Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed.
