T20 World Cup 2024: Starc becomes the highest wicket-taker in World Cup, may score a ‘century’ soon


New Delhi. Australia’s Mitchell Starc has become the highest wicket-taker in the Cricket World Cup (T20 and ODI). he/she achieved this feat during the match against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup. Mitchell Starc dismissed Tanjid Hasan in his/her very first over. With this, he/she took his/her number of wickets in the World Cup to 95.

Record made in 52nd match
This was Mitchell Starc’s 52nd match in the World Cup (T20 and ODI). he/she took only one wicket in this match, but it was enough to break Lasith Malinga’s record. Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga has taken 94 wickets in the Cricket World Cup. Malinga had to play 60 matches to take 94 wickets.

Can score a century in this World Cup
Looking at Mitchell Starc’s form and record, it is possible that he/she takes his/her wicket count to 100 in the T20 World Cup itself. Australia still has to play at least two matches in the T20 World Cup 2024. If Australia reaches the final, it will play 4 matches in the tournament.

Shakib is not far from Starc
In the list of most wicket takers in World Cup (T20 and ODI), Shakib Al Hasan is third, Trent Boult is fourth and Muralitharan is fifth. Bangladesh’s Shakib has taken 92 wickets in 77 matches. he/she is playing in the current T20 World Cup and can increase his/her wicket count further.

New Zealand’s Trent Bolt has taken 87 wickets in 47 matches. New Zealand is out of the T20 World Cup 2024. Bolt has also announced that he/she will not play in the T20 World Cup in future. Muttiah Muralitharan has already retired from cricket a decade ago.
