T20 WC: India’s equation spoiled due to big defeat, path to semi-finals becomes difficult

New Delhi. The Indian cricket team has entered the Women’s T20 World Cup with the intention of winning the title. The team suffered a big defeat in the very first match due to which the path to the semi-finals seems difficult. While chasing 161 runs against New Zealand, the Indian team was reduced to just 102 runs. Starting the tournament with a 58-run defeat, India has suffered a loss in net run rate, due to which one defeat in the remaining matches will mean relying on others to decide the way forward.

India’s start to play in another T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur was not as expected. The team had to face New Zealand in the very first match. Batting first, thanks to captain Sophie Devine’s 57 runs, the score was 160 runs for 4 wickets. Georgia Plimmer scored 34 runs and Suzie Bates scored 27 runs. Indian bowler Renuka Singh took 2 wickets while Arundhati Reddy and Sobhana Asha took 1 wicket each. Chasing the target, the Indian team was all out for just 102 runs in 19 overs.

Shocked by big defeat
The big defeat of 58 runs against New Zealand has given a huge blow to the Indian team. Team India’s net run rate has become -2.900. Which is the lowest among the Group A teams that have played 1 match at this time. Along with India, there are teams of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand in this group. If instead of being all out for 102 runs, the Indian team had scored a few runs and taken the score closer to New Zealand, then the issue of net run rate would not have been so bad.

Next match with Pakistan, 1 defeat will spoil the equation
If the Indian team wants to remain in the race for the semi-finals, then it will have to win the next match against Pakistan at any cost. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team has lost the first match and if it gets a second defeat in a row then the doors of its comeback will be almost closed. India’s net run rate is poor, hence after two defeats, even a big win in the remaining two matches will not directly ensure its place in the semi-finals. he/she will have to depend on the results of other teams.
