The reason for South cinema star Surya’s entry into films was financial problems. It is said that Surya’s entry into films was not part of his/her plan. Although Surya is the son of actor Shivakumar, you will be surprised to know that he/she worked in a garment factory to gain experience. Actually, he/she wanted to start his/her own factory. However, till then he/she did not know anything about the condition of his/her family. It is said that due to financial constraints at home, he/she came in front of the camera. After this he/she never looked back.

‘My salary for 15 days was Rs 750’

In an interview, Surya told that after coming into films, what was the thing that kept him/her connected to this profession. The actor recently said in an interview to Pinkvilla, ‘This is going to be a long story. I just want them (fans) to know how I feel and what it means to me. I was working in a garment industry and joined as a trainee for the first 15 days. My salary for those 15 days was Rs 750. For the first six months he/she did not even know that I was the son of an actor. At that time my monthly salary was Rs 1,200. I worked there for about 3 years. During this period, my salary increased and it became around Rs 8,000.

Surya asked his/her mother- What happened to our savings money?

The actor recalled, ‘Some problems had started at home. One day, while giving me breakfast, my mother said to me – I have borrowed Rs 25,000 and your father does not know. I was quite surprised. I said- Mother, what are you saying? Father is an actor. You cannot borrow Rs 25,000. What happened to our savings money? What is our bank balance? he/she said- he/she was never more than one lakh.

‘Saw mother struggling for small amount like Rs 25,000’

Talking about his/her father, Surya said, ‘Dad is always like this. he/she never asks for his/her salary. he/she waits until the makers clear his/her payment. This was the time when dad was not doing many films or projects. There was a gap of about 10 months. I felt very sad when I saw my mother struggling to return a small amount of Rs 25,000. I thought to myself – what am I doing?

‘That one conversation with my mother changed everything’

he/she further added, ‘Till this moment, I wanted to start a factory of my own. I thought in my mind that my father would invest at least Rs 1 crore in the factory. I was working in a factory to gain experience to start something of my own. But that one conversation with my mother changed everything.

‘I never wanted to be a part of the film industry’

The actor said that then he/she remembered that because of his/her family background, he/she had received many acting offers. he/she said, ‘I used to get a lot of offers but I never wanted to be a part of the film industry or face the camera. I never thought I would do this until five days before facing the camera.

‘When I gave my first shot, there were thousands of people standing near the set’

Surya said, ‘I have come into the industry for money. I came into the industry with the intention of repaying my mother’s debt. That’s how I started my career and that’s how I became Surya. he/she recalled, ‘When I gave my first shot, there were thousands of people standing near the set, they had no idea who I was, yet after my shot, I heard them hooting and clapping. Since then, generations changed, audiences changed, but I continued to receive unconditional love. So I kept doing films for them only. And now, even at 49, I have done a film that requires a six-pack.
