‘Supreme stay’ on the hanging of the person who committed a heinous incident with an engineering student, also sought records from the trial court and high court.

New Delhi:1The Supreme Court has stayed the death sentence during the hearing of the appeal of a person who was sentenced to death for the rape and murder of a 9-year-old engineering student. The court has directed to present the records of the trial court and the high court in the case. The lower court had given death sentence to the culprit in the case, which was confirmed by the Ranchi High Court. The 30-year-old convict has approached the Supreme Court against the High Court’s decision. The Supreme Court said that the death sentence given to the convict will remain postponed. Records from the trial court and the High Court, as well as their soft copies, should be provided. On September 9, 2023, the Jharkhand High Court had confirmed the death sentence of Rahul Kumar alias Rahul Raj. Rahul Kumar is a resident of Nawada district of Bihar. This heinous incident took place on December 15, 2016. According to police allegation, the 19-year-old student was raped, strangulated and then burnt. In December 2019, the trial court had sentenced the accused to death. The High Court had upheld the death sentence.

The Ranchi High Court had said in its judgment that the life of a talented 19-year-old girl, who was studying in an engineering college, was ended in the most barbaric manner. This has been proved by the post mortem report and this has also been confirmed in the medical test. The court said that accused Rahul Kumar had come to the spot with an electric wire so that he/she could strangulate the victim. he/she had also brought three jerkins of lubricant oil so that the victim’s body could be burnt after the incident. This crime was not a crime committed out of anger, rather it was planned and carried out ruthlessly as part of a larger conspiracy.

Evidence suggests that the accused stalked the victim, attempted to take a room on rent in her house and then moved into a room in a nearby temple complex. After the murder the accused fled from the spot.
