Sugar is just infamous, scientists admit that this small mistake is the real cause of diabetes

What causes diabetes, why does diabetes occur or who gets diabetes? Sugar is always blamed for diabetes. Of course, excessive consumption of sweets causes diabetes but in a new study scientists have found evidence that using plastic bottles also increases the risk of diabetes because dangerous chemicals are found in them.

This study (published in the journal ‘Diabetes’Reference) found that BPA, a chemical used in packaging food and drinks, which is also found in plastic water bottles, can reduce sensitivity to insulin, the hormone that balances sugar in the body. The results of this research will be presented at the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

BPA causes diabetes

Previous studies have already shown that bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical used to make plastics and epoxy resins, can disturb the balance of hormones in the human body. This is the first time that a study has linked BPA to diabetes, but no study has directly tested this before.

Scientists at California Polytechnic State University have said in a statement that this is the first study that suggests that consuming BPA can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. They have advised to limit its consumption and reduce the use of plastic bottles.

In the study, the researchers included 40 healthy people. These people were divided into two groups. One group was given an inactive substance (placebo), while the other group was given approximately 50 micrograms of BPA per kilogram of weight daily.

The study found that those who were given BPA had reduced insulin sensitivity after four days. Whereas no such reduction was seen in those who took the inactive substance.

The study also states that using stainless steel or glass bottles and BPA-free cans can reduce exposure to BPA, which can also reduce the risk of diabetes. Nowadays plastic bottles are used everywhere. These are definitely convenient, but concerns are constantly growing about the health hazards of their chemicals.

Another study published recently in the journal Eco-Environment and Health found that plastic water bottles left in the sun can release harmful chemicals. Certain types of bottles release highly toxic organic substances, including cancer-causing chemicals such as n-hexadecane. These results point to a serious threat to health.
