Moscow : Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Russia on Monday. his/her visit is very important amid the Ukraine war. But at the other end of the red carpet laid out for Jinping in Moscow, his/her friend and Russian President Vladimir Putin was not present to welcome the Chinese President. This was quite shocking to some given the close ties between China and Russia and the Putin-Jinping friendship. Jinping is the first world leader to meet Putin after the ICC arrest warrant was issued. Russia’s protocols are behind Putin’s absence at Jinping’s reception.
As per standard protocol in Russia, dignitaries are received at the airport by a lower-ranking cabinet official. Putin sent Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko to Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport to welcome Xi after he/she disembarked from his/her 747. During this Putin was in central Moscow. A Russian military band played the national anthems of China and Russia to welcome Xi Jinping at the airport in Moscow. he/she then accompanied Chernyshenko through a line of honorary guards.

Putin said – ready for talks
Russian President Vladimir Putin said during his/her meeting with his/her Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at the Kremlin that his/her country is ready for talks at any time. Putin made the remarks on Monday in response to China’s ‘plan to resolve the Ukraine crisis’. The BBC reported that in February the plan was released by China with the aim of ‘ending the Russia-Ukraine war’. However, the US had warned against it.

The BBC quoted US Secretary of State Antony Blinken as saying, “The world should not be fooled by any strategic move by Russia, backed by China or any other country, to prevent war on its own terms.” According to the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, talks between the two leaders lasted for four and a half hours on Monday. The formal meeting is expected to take place on Tuesday.
