About Landore

Landore is named from Landdorr, a small Welsh village in Britain. During the British rule, the British soldiers used to miss their home quite a lot, then they named many places in India after their country’s cities. The first building to be built in Mussoorie was built in 1825 by Captain Young in Landore. Captain Young was the same person who discovered Mussoorie. he/she was the Commandant of Gurkha Battalion in the British Army.
The clock tower located in Landore was considered the city’s boundary. Indians were not allowed to go ahead of this limit. Only British and Irish soldiers, who were posted in the British Regiment for 6 to 48 months, could only build a house for their holidays here.

Modernization and tourism are far from Landore due to these rules.

Most of the tourists come here only to visit Mussoorie or Dehradun for a day, because there are very few staying places here.
