Akshata was born in April 1980 in Hubli, Karnataka, India. his/her childhood was spent in a normal, middle-class family. he/she was brought up by his/her maternal grandparents in the Jayanagar area of Bangalore. Akshata has a brother, Rohan Murthy, who works in the field of business and technology.

Recently N. R. Narayana Murthy recalls a special moment he/she spent with India’s respected industrialist, late Ratan Tata. he/she recounted an incident in 1999 when Ratan Tata gave three hours to his/her daughter Akshata to help her with her college assignment on leadership.

Initially, Tata had planned to give only one hour. But that meeting lasted for three hours in which Tata generously shared his/her thoughts on leadership, compassion and the difficult decisions that leaders have to make.

Narayan Murthy told that this meeting was special not only for Akshata but also for him/her and his/her wife Sudha Murthy. he/she appreciated Tata’s humility and his/her approach to leadership. Akshata started her career in 2007 as a marketing director in a cleantech company named Tendris. he/she left this post after just 2 years and started his/her own fashion label. In 2013, she joined a venture capital fund called Catamaran Ventures as a director.

Along with Rishi Sunak, Akshata established the London branch of Infosys and in 2015, when Rishi Sunak was elected Conservative Party MP from Richmond, he/she transferred his/her shares of Infosys to Akshata.
