The main reason for this is the proficiency of Indian students in English language, which is helping them to be successful compared to the students of other countries.
Speaking to Education Times, Dr. Martin Lamb, Director of International Education, School of Education at the University of Leeds, said, “The standard of English language in India is much better than in other countries of the world. In a way, English has become the language of India. This is a major part of the language in India. Young people in India are not learning English as a foreign language since childhood. In fact, recently two professors from Russell Group Universities claimed that a large portion of foreign students in many universities do not meet the requirements required to obtain a degree, especially when it comes to the English language. However, Professor Lamb rejected the claims of both professors outright. he/she said, “Indian students studying at the University of Leeds are proficient in the English language. Their speaking skills have been better than other foreign students.”

Professor Lamb said, “Writing is more challenging for Indian students, however, because they may not have written much at school or may not be familiar with the academic writing practices at Anglophone universities. But they have good vocabulary and grammar. Know very well. I think language is not a problem. Actually they are not able to present their thoughts properly.

English level is improving among international students

Professor Lamb has been teaching at the University of Leeds for the past 25 years. he/she has witnessed the improvement in English language among international students. he/she says, “Most of our students come from China and their English language has improved a lot in the last two decades. However, there are some issues which need attention. Every year we have at least There are students who struggle with English.”

he/she explains, “We also know of cases where someone has not given IELTS or any other test but has passed it. We know that international students’ English is not as good , the majority of Britain’s students. Yet we need to adjust the way we teach to accommodate them.” Professor Lamb said exams like IELTS are designed to prepare students for academic work.
