Stokes out… England team announced for India tour and Champions Trophy

New Delhi. England Cricket has announced its team for the ICC Champions Trophy. The Champions Trophy will start from February 19, 2025 in Pakistan and at a neutral venue. Along with this, England also announced its team for the ODI and T20 series to be played against India before the Champions Trophy. This series will be played between India and England from 22 January 2025. England and Wales Cricket Board has excluded Ben Stokes from the 15-member team. Stokes suffered a hamstring injury in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand.

Ben Stokes had already said that he/she probably would not be able to play in the 8-team Champions Trophy tournament. But he/she had also indicated that if Brendon McCullum is made the coach of England in all three formats in January, then he/she can ask him/her about playing in the ICC Champions Trophy. he/she will be ready for this. However, it is difficult for Stokes to play at this time. Joe Root played his/her last ODI match in November 2023. After this he/she has returned. In recent times, Joe Root was not getting a place in the England ODI team.

England Cricket has expressed confidence in Joe Butler as captain for the Champions Trophy and limited overs series against India. Young Jacob Bethel and Jamie Smith have also got a place in the team, while Joffra Archer, who made a comeback in the ODI series against West Indies, was also successful in saving his/her place in the team.
