Stock market closed at new record high, Sensex jumped 431 points, Nifty crossed 20,855 for the first time.

The domestic stock market remained in high spirits for the sixth consecutive day on Tuesday. The market again closed at a new high today. Sensex closed at a new record level of 69,296.14 points with a jump of 431.02 points. Nifty also closed at a new high level of 20,855.30 points, rising 168.50 points. Investors earned more than Rs 3 lakh crore during trading. The Sensex also touched an all-time high of 69381.31, although the Bombay Stock Exchange midcap and small cap indices closed marginally higher. The market moved to new highs today due to gains led by banking and energy stocks.

Rupee closed steady at 83.38 (provisional) per dollar

According to the news, the rupee closed stable at 83.38 (provisional) per dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market. Nifty 50 hit its new record high of 20,864.05 during Tuesday’s session. December 5 marked the sixth consecutive trading session when both the indices closed with gains. According to Livemint, the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices also hit new record highs of 35,216.47 and 41,317.67, respectively, during the session. The biggest gainers in Sensex in today’s session included shares of Power Grid, NTPC, SBI, ICICI Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra. While Wipro, HCL Tech, Infosys, Bajaj Finance closed the biggest decline.

Mid and small caps outperform large caps in 2023

Mid and small caps have outperformed largecaps in 2023 and have gained 36 per cent and 46 per cent respectively in calendar year 2023 as against Nifty’s 11 per cent rise. This has come to light in a report of Motilal Oswal Financial Services. Midcap/Smallcap outperformed Largecap by 4.9%/6.5% in November 2023.
