Sri Lanka’s euphoria of victory over India has faded, it is in trouble in the first match in England, there is a risk of a shameful defeat

After bowling out Sri Lanka for 236 runs in the first innings, England has pushed them on the backfoot in the second innings as well. The Sri Lankan team has lost 6 wickets for 204 runs in the second innings and has a lead of only 82 runs over England.

A three-match Test series is being played between hosts England and Sri Lanka. The first Test of the series started on 21 August in Manchester. On the first day, Sri Lanka batted. England bowled them out for 236 runs in 74 overs. Lankan captain Dhananjay de Silva scored 74 and Milan Ratnayake scored 72 runs. The other batsmen could not cross the score of 25.

After bowling out Sri Lanka cheaply, England scored 358 runs in their first innings. Wicketkeeper batsman Jamie Smith (111) scored a century for Sri Lanka. Due to this, England gained a crucial lead of 122 runs over Sri Lanka. Apart from Jamie Smith, Harry Brook (56) and Joe Root (42) played good innings for England.

Sri Lanka’s team, which was 122 runs behind in the first innings, is not looking to score big in the second innings either. They have lost 6 wickets in making 200 runs in their second innings. Angelo Mathews scored the most runs from their side in the second innings. he/she played an innings of 65 runs on 145 balls.

Chandimal got injured, was immediately taken to hospital
Earlier, Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal (right) had to retire hurt in the 18th over due to a thumb injury. At that time, Sri Lanka’s score was 74 runs for 3 wickets. Chandimal was immediately taken to the hospital, where his/her X-ray was done. After the injury was not serious, Chandimal came out to bat again. When Sri Lanka lost the sixth wicket at the score of 190, Chandimal came out to bat.

Now hopes from Mendis and Chandimal
All hopes of Sri Lanka now rest on Kamindu Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal. Kamindu Mendis was unbeaten on 56 runs at the end of the third day’s play. Dinesh Chandimal is supporting him/her by scoring 20 runs. Only if Kamindu Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal play long innings on the fourth day, will the Sri Lankan team be able to give a tough target to England.

Sri Lanka had defeated India in the ODI series at home a few days ago. This was the first time in 27 years that the Indian team had to face defeat in an ODI series against Sri Lanka. This victory was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Sri Lanka.
