Son left IIT for dad! Despite passing JEE, chose the path of serving the country, story of NDA gold medalist


Ankit Chaudhary NDA Gold Medalist Story in Hindi: ‘I feel passionate about serving in the Army because my ailing father also once belonged to it, who died of liver cancer three years after retiring from the Army.’ These are the words of gold medal winning Army cadet Ankit Chaudhary from the President of the 147th course at the National Defense Academy (NDA). Ankit had passed JEE Main entrance exam. When it came to the choice between JEE Advanced exam and Service Selection Board (SSB) for NDA, he/she decided to spend his/her life in the army.

Army cadet Ankit Chaudhary, inspired by his/her father, left his/her dream of IIT and chose NDA. On the basis of his/her dedication, he/she became the gold medalist of the 147th NDA course.

Ankit said, I consider it my duty to serve in the army. Even after retirement, the Army took care of my father who was suffering from liver cancer. I had only prepared for JEE. I appeared for the NDA entrance exam with my friends. JEE Advanced and SSB interviews were clashing with each other.

Ankit says that he/she remembered his/her father and listened to his/her inner voice and sacrificed his/her dream of IIT. I think my father would have been very proud and very happy with my decision. According to the report, Ankit’s father Sultan Singh served 17 years in 11 Rajputana Rifles Infantry Battalion. Ankit’s mother Sarojdevi is a teacher in Rajasthan government.

Ankit completed his/her schooling from St. Mary’s Senior Secondary School, Sikar. On this, his/her mother Saroj Devi said, ‘Being a single mother after the death of my husband, my only aim was to give good education to my children. Ankit has joined the NDA, while my younger son Anshu will join the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to pursue a medical degree. Both sons have made me proud.
