New Delhi: The controversy is increasing during the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Bill. A day after TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee broke a glass bottle and threw it at the Speaker, three BJP MPs included in the panel on Wednesday demanded registration of an FIR against the TMC member. These MPs demanded his/her immediate suspension from the Lok Sabha pending investigation into the incident. BJP MPs described the incident as ‘unprecedented violence’.

The committee chairman also violated?

On the day, the opposition also alleged that committee chairperson Jagdambika Pal had violated norms by speaking publicly about the incident. The incident occurred amid a heated exchange between Banerjee and BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay during the panel meeting. However, Pal rejected the allegations and said that I have not disclosed any proceedings or deliberations of the committee. I have only given a statement regarding the incident of violence by a member during the committee meeting and his/her subsequent suspension.

Complaint to Lok Sabha Speaker

BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey, Aparajita Sarangi and Gangopadhyay have lodged a complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. In this, a demand has been made to investigate the matter by the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee to consider canceling Banerjee’s membership of the House. In their joint letter to the Speaker, the BJP MPs said they and other panel members witnessed Banerjee’s ‘hooliganism and unpardonable violence’.

BJP MPs said the hooliganism and inexcusable violence displayed by Kalyan Banerjee has crossed all limits of civilized behavior expected from an MP. This has now become a deadly attack on Speaker Jagdambika Pal. The MPs said in their letter that therefore, you yourself should take strict action for this, otherwise the image of our parliamentary governance system will be created which cannot be repaired.

Which rule of Lok Sabha is referred to?

BJP MPs said that as per Rule 316B (A) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha, the unethical conduct of Member of Parliament Kalyan Banerjee is to be referred to the Ethics Committee for investigation, inquiry and report to consider canceling his/her membership. Needed They said Banerjee could be suspended from the proceedings of the House and its committees pending further action against her. he/she may also be banned from entering the Parliament premises till the investigation against him/her is completed.
