According to the police, as soon as the police recovered Das’s head, they started a house-to-house search and on identification by the neighbours, the police found that the victim was missing for the last five to six months and there was no missing person report by his family members. The police said it interrogated Poonam and Deepak and both gave conflicting statements. Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Singh Yadav said that later, both the accused revealed that they conspired to kill Das and after killing him, cut his body into pieces and put the parts in plastic bags for Ramlila. Police said that Das stopped working and used all his earnings for his expenses.

The police officer said that Das started stealing her jewelery and cash and used to send it to his first wife in Bihar, due to which they had quarreled several times. The officer said that Poonam’s son Deepak was married in 2018 and has a three-year-old son. The officer told that Deepak was living in the neighborhood. Police said that in March or April this year, Poonam came to know that Das allegedly had ill intentions towards her divorced daughter as well as daughter-in-law. Police said that he allegedly tried to molest them, which Deepak could not tolerate.

According to the police, a team will be sent to Bihar to collect DNA samples of Das’s family members so that it can be matched with the body parts. Police said the refrigerator used to store Das’s body parts has been seized. Police said that Deepak used to work as a waiter at parties and functions. The case is similar to the murder of 26-year-old Walkar in the national capital.
