Skill subjects have become a part of mainstream education, now skill subjects will be taught in sixth class only.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that based on the recommendations of the National Education Policy, skill subjects have been made a part of mainstream education. Study of skill subject has started from sixth class itself. Ten years ago, only 960 schools had vocational courses, which has increased to 29342 schools by 2024. Apart from this, at present 30.8 lakh students are enrolled in skill education courses, whereas earlier this number was only 50 thousand. The Education Minister said that now there will be no shortage of NCERT books. New books are being brought as per the National Curriculum Framework (NCF). Books for classes 9th to 12th will be available in 2026-27. Some books will come in the new session. In the new session, NCERT will print more than 15 crore books, the price of which will be low. he/she said that NCERT will print 15 crore quality and affordable books in the next academic year. At present it publishes about five crore textbooks. There have been concerns in the past over the issue of demand and supply of textbooks but this will now be addressed.

he/she said that if the number of books being printed will be more, the prices of textbooks for some classes will be reduced. The price of textbooks for any class will not be increased to ensure that there is no financial burden on parents. The minister informed that as per the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF), the process of updating the textbooks is underway. “The process is ongoing and textbooks for classes 9 to 12 will be ready by the 2026-27 academic session,” he/she said.

Pradhan said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there has been a major improvement in school infrastructure and facilities in the last 10 years. While in 2013-14, 53 percent of the schools in the country had electricity, in 2023-24, 91.8 percent of the schools will have electricity. There has also been a significant increase in basic facilities like computers, library, playground. Earlier, internet connectivity was only in 7.1 percent schools, which has now increased to 54 percent schools.

We are moving towards almost 100 percent in parameters of cleanliness. he/she said that the expenditure per student has increased by 130 percent in the last 10 years. While in the 2013-14 budget, the expenditure for each student was Rs 10,780, in the 2021-22 budget it has increased to Rs 25,043. Today there are digital books for classes one and two in all the scheduled languages ​​of India.

The Union Minister said that the board results have increased by 64 percent in the last ten years. In 2013-14, the pass percentage of class 10th was 58, which has increased to 95.5 percent today. The pass percentage of girls in class 10th has increased by 72 percent. he/she said that in the last 10 years the number of higher education institutions in the country has increased by 14 percent. In 2014-15 this number was 51,534, whereas in 2014-23 this number is 58,634.

A total of 42 new centrally-funded HEIs have been created in the last 10 years. In 2014, the number of institutions aided by the Central Government was 115, which has now increased to 157. Now 10845 institutions participate in NIRF ranking. There were only 11 institutions in the QS Ranking in 2015, which has now increased to 46, an increase of 318 percent.
