‘Skill shortage in America is filled by H-1B visa’, who said this in support of Indian tech workers?

H-1B visa dispute: There is a lot of controversy these days in America regarding the H-1B visa program. Supporters of President Donald Trump have even demanded to end this program. However, amidst the voices of protest, voices are also being raised from many quarters in support of H-1B visa and Indian tech workers. In this context, NASSCOM has said that H-1B visa has nothing to do with the immigration issue. This visa fulfills the skill shortage in America.
Foreign workers are recruited in sectors like tech and healthcare through H-1B visa. Most of the people going from India to America for jobs obtain this visa. However, now there is a demand to end it. Non-governmental trade association ‘National Association of Software and Services Companies’ (NASSCOM) said that technology has played an important role in American economic development. With this, there will be a need for beneficial partnership between the companies of both the countries.

Indian talent important for America’s development: NASSCOM Vice President

Supporting Indian tech workers, NASSCOM Vice President Shivendra Singh rejected the notion that H-1B workers are cheap laborers and are replacing Americans or reducing American salaries. he/she said that NASSCOM is optimistic about the growth of the Indian IT industry. India and Indian talent play a very important role in the development of the American economy. he/she said that the developments happening in America will not tarnish the outlook of the Indian IT industry.

What did NASSCOM Vice President say on citizenship by birth?

In an interview given to news agency PTI, when he/she was asked that citizenship by birth in America has been abolished, what effect will it have on H-1B visa holders? In response, Shivendra Singh expressed sympathy for those affected, but stressed that immigration policies are a country’s sole prerogative.

he/she said, “I sympathize with the challenges that may arise for their children during their tenure in the United States. But immigration is a country’s absolute autonomy.” he/she stressed that the H-1B visa is in no way connected to the immigration debate or issue because it is a non-immigrant visa. he/she said, “H-1B is not an immigration but a trade issue, it is important to understand the difference between it and immigration.”
