Shyam Benegal’s last rites will be performed at Shivaji Park, last farewell will be given at 2 pm on Tuesday.

The funeral of veteran Bollywood filmmaker Shyam Benegal will take place today on 24th December. Benegal’s mortal remains will be kept at his/her home on Peddar Road for the last rites. The last journey will be taken out after 12 noon. Benegal will be given a final farewell at 2 pm at the crematorium located in Shivaji Park, Dadar. Bollywood filmmaker Shyam Benegal died on Monday 23 December at the age of 90. he/she celebrated his/her 90th birthday on 14th December this month itself.

Honored with Padma Bhushan, Padmashree to Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Benegal is remembered for new age films. he/she had made films like ‘Ankur’, ‘Nishant’, ‘Manthan’ and Bhumika. The filmmaker was awarded the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan in 1991 by the government. In the year 2007, he/she was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award of Indian cinema.

Won the National Film Award five times for Best Hindi Feature Film.

he/she also produced the serials ‘Yatra’, ‘Katha Sagar’ and ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’ for Doordarshan in the mid-1980s. he/she was the only film director to win multiple National Film Awards for Best Hindi Feature Film. Apart from this, Shyam Benegal was honored with the Excellence in Cinema Award of South Asian Cinema Foundation in the year 2012. he/she was given this award in London for his/her significant contribution to Indian cinema.

Apart from films, he/she also made documentaries, television serials and short films. In this, ‘Nehru’ (1985) and ‘Satyajit Ray, the filmmaker also received the National Film Award. Television serials ‘Yatra’ (1986), Kathasagar (1986), Bharat Ek Khoj (1988) and short films ‘Ghar Baitha Ganga’ (1962), ‘Poovanam’ (1969), ‘Flower Garden’ (1969), ‘ Hero’ (1975).
