Shoojit Sircar told the condition of Irrfan Khan’s last days – he/she could not fight cancer mentally

Actor Irrfan Khan died due to cancer in the year 2020. he/she was battling neuroendocrine cancer. Irrfan was a good friend of director Shoojit Sircar. Both of them also worked together in the film ‘Piku’. Shoojit was so impressed by Irrfan, that he/she made the recently released Abhishek Bachchan starrer I Want To Talk keeping the actor in mind. Shoojit Sircar talked about the last days of Irrfan Khan in the latest interview. he/she was in constant touch with Irrfan Khan. According to Shoojit, Irrfan was not able to fight cancer mentally and lost the battle.

Shoojit Sircar remembered Irfan

While talking to ETimes, Shoojit Sircar was asked who inspired him/her to make I Want To Talk. It was also asked that just as the lead character of the film struggles with a serious illness, if this happens to him/her in real life, how would he/she react. On this Shoojit Sircar said, ‘A friend of mine had to face this situation, but he/she did not let this situation break him/her.’

‘Irfan could not fight cancer mentally’

Shoojit Sircar further said, ‘When Irrfan was diagnosed with cancer, I used to talk to him/her often. However, he/she could not fight it mentally. However, my friend did not surrender.

Decision to make I Want To Talk after Irrfan’s death

Shoojit Sircar again told that after Irrfan’s death he/she was inspired to write the script. he/she said, ‘After Irrfan’s death, I decided to make this film for those who struggle mentally in such situations. This is not specifically about Irrfan, but about anyone facing a mental health challenge. My friend was given 100 days but now he/she has lived 10,842 days.

Shoojit Sircar regrets till today

Shoojit Sircar told in another interview that he/she has still not recovered from the shock of Irrfan’s death. he/she still has a lot of regrets in his/her mind, which he/she is unable to get rid of and it overwhelms him/her. Shoojit told that after ‘Piku’ he/she wanted to work with Irrfan again, but it could not happen.
