Sharda Sinha’s son gave consent to the doctor for ventilator, people do not know the real purpose of getting the signature done.

It is difficult, it is very difficult, this time it is quite difficult… Sharda Sinha’s son Anshuman, while giving the health update of the famous singer live, laid a lot of emphasis on these three sentences. he/she told that famous folk singer Sharda Sinha, honored with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, has now gone on ventilator support. For this he/she has also given consent to the doctor. But do you know why the doctor makes the consent form be signed before taking him/her on the ventilator?

First of all we need to understand why the ventilator machine is used. The job of the ventilator machine is to help the patient breathe. It is used when the patient is unable to breathe on his/her own due to illness or respiratory failure and there is a lack of oxygen in the body and brain.

The work of ventilator machine is done in two ways. First, oxygen is given by placing a mask on the patient’s mouth so that the lungs do not have to work too much. But in serious cases, a tube connected to the ventilator is inserted to the lungs which allows breathing to reach there.

Consent required for ventilator support

Before taking the patient on ventilator support, consent is taken from the hospital attendant on a consent form. Dr. Vineet Banga, Director of Neurology, Fortis Hospital, Faridabad and Okhla explained the reason behind this. The purpose of this consent is to make the patient or his/her legal representative aware of the procedure and risks of the ventilator.

According to Dr. Vineet Banga, ventilator is used to save lives. But it cannot be denied that there are some infections and risks to lungs and other organs associated with it. After this consent, the doctor can take immediate action if necessary so that treatment is not delayed while waiting for consent.

Risk of pneumonia infection

The most common risk after going on a ventilator is pneumonia infection. The patient is unable to cough because of the breathing tube. Through cough, the body throws out the germs and bacteria trapped in the physical respiratory tract. But because of the tube of the ventilator, they remain there and can cause infection.

Prolonged stay on a ventilator can cause pulmonary edema. There are small air sacs near the lungs. These bags are filled with breath, but water can accumulate inside them during ventilation. Due to which breathing can become difficult.
