Shammi Kapoor used to distribute notes by the handful, people used to carry a sack full of cash, know the story


Shammi Kapoor had a deep connection with Kashmir. he/she shot many of his/her films in Kashmir. ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’ was also shot in Kashmir, and it was a blockbuster. After this, Shammi Kapoor became the favorite of the people of Kashmir. The actor also had a special attachment to him/her. This attachment was so much that he/she used to distribute notes to the people there by the handful. The people accompanying him/her used to carry sacks filled with notes. This disclosure has been made by director Rahul Rawail. While talking to ‘Jagran’, Rahul Rawail recalled the incident of shooting of Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh starrer ‘Betaab’. This film was shot in Kashmir. Rahul Rawail told that at that time the people of Kashmir had become used to seeing Shammi Kapoor, because most of his/her films were shot in Kashmir.

Rahul Rawail said, ‘We shot ‘Betaab’ in Kashmir. Shammi ji had a special connection with Kashmir because he/she had shot many films there from ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’ to ‘Betaab’. So the local people were used to seeing him/her there. he/she always stayed at the Lake Palace Hotel, Oberoi Hotel in Srinagar. After the shooting, when he/she would leave the hotel, the staff would gather in the corridor to bid farewell.’

‘Shammi ji would put his/her hand in the bag and distribute whatever money he/she got.’

Rahul Rawail further said, ‘Shammi ji had two people on either side of him/her, who carried cash in a sack. Shammi ji would put his/her hands in the sack and whatever money he/she got, he/she would distribute it among the hotel staff. This was his/her royal nature. It was not just about this place, wherever he/she went to shoot, he/she had the same royal attitude.

Shammi Kapoor’s death and last film

Shammi Kapoor died on 14 August 2011. ‘Rockstar’ was his/her last film. his/her grandson Ranbir Kapoor was with him/her in this. It was only on Ranbir’s insistence that Shammi Kapoor agreed to Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Rockstar’.
