Shami can make a comeback in Ranji Trophy, can play Test match against NZ


New Delhi. Indian cricket team’s experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami can return to competitive cricket through Ranji Trophy. Shami is currently undergoing rehab after ankle surgery. he/she is undergoing the process of recovering from the injury under the supervision of doctors at NCA. After playing for Bengal in Ranji Trophy, Shami is also likely to play a Test in the upcoming home series against New Zealand. Shami can play in one of Bengal’s first two Ranji matches against Uttar Pradesh on October 11 and Bihar on October 18. There is only two days between these two matches, so it is less likely that he/she will be a part of both the matches.

The Test series against New Zealand will begin in Bengaluru on October 19. After that there will be Tests in Pune (October 24) and Mumbai (November 1). Mohammed Shami is expected to play in one of these matches before going on a difficult tour of Australia. 34-year-old Shami, one of India’s best fast bowlers, has been out of the team since the ODI World Cup final played against Australia in Ahmedabad on November 19 last year.

Shami underwent ankle surgery in February
he/she underwent ankle surgery in England in February this year. After which he/she was away from the game for six months. In some videos shared on Instagram, Shami is seen bowling low speed with short runups in his/her RTP routine (return to the game) at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. There were reports that he/she might be available for the Duleep Trophy.

However, there was no possibility of him/her being fit during the Duleep Trophy. The selectors do not want to take any risk in a hurry. The priority of the Indian team management is to keep the country’s top three fast bowlers (Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj) fit for the five Test matches to be held in Australia. Shami has taken 229 wickets in 64 Test matches so far. he/she has taken five wickets in an innings six times during this period.
