The Bombay High Court commuted the death sentence awarded to three convicts in the gangrape of a 22-year-old photojournalist at the Shakti Mills premises to life imprisonment. The court said that they deserve to undergo life imprisonment for repenting of the offenses committed by them.
A division bench of Justice Sadhana Jadhav and Justice Prithviraj Chavan refused to confirm the death sentences awarded to Vijay Jadhav, Mohd Kasim Shaikh and Mohd Ansari and commuted their sentence to life imprisonment for the rest of their lives. This case is of 22 August 2013 when a woman photojournalist Shakti Mills along with one of her colleagues had gone to cover the premises.

The woman journalist was made a victim of lust
Actually, this mill, which has been closed for years in Mahalaxmi area, remains deserted. It was 6 o’clock in the evening that day. When the woman journalist and her companion reached there, some people present there, pretending to be the police, stopped them from taking photos. Those people said that first you take permission from our officer and then take photos. Then they took the woman journalist and her companion inside. After taking them inside and attacking both of them, tied the woman journalist’s partner there.

Police caught all the accused within 72 hours
After that the woman journalist was gang-raped by five people. After two hours, both of them somehow escaped from the hospital after saving their lives. As soon as the doctors in the hospital saw the condition of the girl, they understood the whole matter. The doctors informed the police. The police were also stunned by the news of the gang rape of a female journalist.

Soon after forming several teams, the search for the accused was started. Within 72 hours the police caught all the five accused. Another gang rape case came to light during interrogation. Three of these accused had carried out another incident of gang rape in Shakti Mill itself.
