Sehwag raging on the captaincy of Shubman Gill.
New Delhi. Former explosive opener of Team India Virender Sehwag is not happy with the captaincy of Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill in the IPL. Punjab Kings defeated Gujarat Titans in the first match. After this defeat, Sehwag said that Gill’s captaincy was not good because he/she was not ready. Gujarat Titans bowled poorly, losing by 11 runs. Sehwag especially questioned the use of fast bowler Mohammad Siraj and said that he/she was removed very quickly in the powerplay.
Talking to Cricbuj, Sehwag said, ‘I felt that Shubman Gill’s captaincy was not as expected. They were not ready, they were not proactive. When Siraj was bowling well, he/she brought Arshad Khan. Who gave 21 runs in the powerplay and that over changed the attitude of the match. If Siraj is bowling well with the new ball, then there is no point in stopping him/her for death overs. And you can see that in the end they were killed too.
Shubman Gill said after the defeat against Punjab that he/she had opportunities but could not take advantage of it on important occasions. Sehwag said, ‘We had opportunities in bowling and batting. We gave a lot of runs in the last over. We scored around 18 runs in those three overs. And we did not score much runs in our first three overs. This is what we found expensive in the match. Despite the defeat, Gill saw positive aspects in his/her team’s performance.
Mohammad Siraj conceded 14 runs in the first two overs in his/her debut match for Gujarat. Mohammad Siraj, who has been with Royal Challengers Bangalore for many years, is part of the Gujarat Titans from this season. But his/her first match for GT was no less than a nightmare. In the four-over Kota, Mohammad Siraj scored 54 runs, in which 23 runs came in a single over. Siraj, who played the last match with a white ball in 2024 for India, is said to have not been a T20 bowler. In this format, they have not been able to shield themselves.
