Second FIR filed against Malayalam actor Jayasurya, two actresses made the same allegation, will any action be taken?


The fallout of the Hema Committee report on cases of harassment and misbehavior in the Malayalam film industry is intensifying. Now a new case has been registered against Malayalam actor Jayasurya based on a complaint by another actress. The actress had filed a complaint against him/her regarding sexual harassment, on the basis of which an FIR has been lodged. Earlier also an FIR was lodged against him/her and this is the second FIR. According to Kerala Police, the FIR has been registered in Thiruvananthapuram and will be sent to Thodupuzha police station, news agency ANI reported on Friday. On Thursday, separate cases were registered against actors Jayasurya and Maniyanpilla Raju after a woman alleged that they sexually harassed her. FIRs have been registered against several high-profile Malayalam film personalities after allegations of sexual harassment against several directors and actors in the wake of revelations in the Justice K Hema Committee report.

This is the second FIR against Jayasuriya

Earlier, a Malayalam actress had accused actor Jayasurya of sexual harassment and demanded justice. In a conversation with CNN-News18, the actress urged the authorities to take action against the accused and said that now the time has come to make the workplace safe for women. She said, ‘I want justice. Women should feel safe. No one should feel unsafe while working.’

The actress had made allegations

Earlier, the actress accused actor Mukesh of assaulting her and demanded his/her resignation. She urged the political party not to support him/her and said, ‘The government and party will never support a man like him/her. They too have daughters, wives and sisters. No politics can support a man like Mukesh.’

17 cases have been filed so far

Sexual harassment cases have been surfacing in the Malayalam film industry since the Justice Hema Committee report came out earlier this month. Many actresses have accused actors, directors and filmmakers of the industry of harassing them. So far, 17 cases have been filed.
