Heads of State meet in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Which is organized every year in the capital cities of the member countries. In this meeting, member countries discuss multilateral issues and also discuss the ongoing international situation. This year the meeting of Shanghai Organization is being held in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on 15 and 16 October.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an eight-member organization. Which was established on 15 June 2001 in China. Then it included the countries China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. These countries were also known as Shanghai Five (S5 Group).

Five member countries included Uzbekistan in this group for the first time, after which it changed to Shanghai Six. The headquarters of SCO is in Beijing, China. Its presidency is held on a one-year rotation among the member countries.

India was given the status of observer country in the S-5 Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2005. After which India participated in all the SCO meetings. Whereas PM Narendra Modi participated in the SCO summit in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2016 and signed the agreement to get the status of member country in the organization. On 9 June 2017, India and Pakistan fully joined SCO. Currently the member countries in SCO are India, Pakistan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Which covers about 24 percent of the entire world area. In Eurasia this percentage increases to 65 percent.
