School Admission 2025: Students are decreasing rapidly in schools? Many revelations in the new report!

New Delhi: In the new education policy, a target of 100 percent gross enrollment ratio (GER) from pre-school to secondary (9th to 12th) has been set by 2030. A report by the Union Education Ministry shows that many states are lagging far behind in this mission. If we look at the secondary level, there is only 38% enrollment in Bihar. After this, GER was 58 percent in UP, 51 percent in Jharkhand, 56 percent in Madhya Pradesh-Assam, 54 percent in Jammu and Kashmir, 50 in Nagaland, 57 percent in Arunachal Pradesh and 59 percent in Gujarat.
The ratio is 109 percent in Chandigarh, 93 in Kerala, 100 in Goa, 96 in Puducherry and 91 percent in Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. The dropout rate at the secondary level is highest in Bihar, Assam, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal. There have been 24.8 crore enrollments in school education in the country in 2023-24 and 19.70 crore children have given their Aadhar card numbers in schools.

While more than 91 percent of schools in India have basic facilities like electricity and toilets, there is still a lack of facilities like computers and internet. Only 57.2 percent schools have computers and 53.9 percent schools have internet facilities. In the report of Unified District Information System For Education plus i.e. UDISE+ (2023-24), data has been released regarding every aspect including enrolment, school infrastructure, drop out.

Enrollment decreased:

The report says enrollment in schools across India in 2023-24 is down by 37 lakh compared to the previous year. The number of students in 2022-23 was 25.17 crore, which has come down to 24.80 crore in 2023-24. The number of girl students has declined by 16 lakh and the number of boys has declined by 21 lakh.
According to this report, there are 14.72 lakh schools in the country, in which 98 lakh teachers teach. Enrollment of students is 49 percent at pre-foundational level, 25 percent at middle level and 26 percent at secondary level. At the national level, the number of girls students is 48.1 percent.

Minority – 20 percent:

It has been told in the report that out of the total enrollment, the number of minorities is 20 percent, out of which 79.6 percent are Muslims, 10 percent Christians, 6.9 percent Sikhs, 2.2 percent Buddhists, 1.3 percent Jains and 0.1 percent Parsis. If seen at the national level, the number of general candidates is 26.9, 18 percent from SC category, 9.9 percent from ST, 45.2 percent from OBC category. At the national level, Muslim students constitute 15.8 percent of the total enrollment from foundational to secondary level.

Dropout is still a concern:

The thrust of the Union Education Ministry is to reduce the number of school dropouts and bring them back to schools. However, this report states that 3.7 percent children drop out of school at the preparatory level and 5.2 percent by the time they reach middle school. At the secondary level this percentage increases to 10.9. Due to various reasons, students mostly drop out of school between 9th and 12th class.
20.86 percent children are dropping out in Bihar at secondary level. 19.46 from Assam, 18.73 from Karnataka, 17.53 from Meghalaya, 16.74 from Gujarat, 16.08 percent from Jammu and Kashmir, 15.17 from Madhya Pradesh, 14.52 from Chhattisgarh, 12.43 from Manipur, 12.01 from West Bengal, 11.42 from Haryana, 10.37 from Delhi, UP In The drop rate is 5.94, 5.21 in Punjab and 4.60 percent in Himachal Pradesh.

80 percent of children’s Aadhaar schools got the benefits of central schemes:
To provide the benefits of various schemes of the Central and State Governments to the students, Aadhaar number was also sought and out of 24.80 crore students, the schools have received the Aadhaar number of 80 percent.
97.74 percent in Maharashtra, 95.05 percent in Haryana, 98.1 percent in Andhra Pradesh, 97.6 percent in Puducherry, 89.92 percent in Delhi, about 86 percent in Uttarakhand and Punjab have their Aadhaar card numbers in schools, while 38.81 percent in Bihar, only 24.18 percent in Meghalaya. And only 51 percent of Manipur’s children have received Aadhaar numbers from schools.

Still lack of computer and internet facility:

It has been told in the report that at present 57 percent schools have computers and 54 percent schools have internet facility. However, drinking water has reached 98.3 percent schools. 97.2 percent schools have toilet facilities. 91.8 percent schools have electricity, 89 percent have libraries and 82 percent schools have playgrounds.
