School Admission 2025 Delhi: Race for KG and Class 1 is tougher than nursery, schools told – when will they give information about seats

Along with nursery, Delhi Education Directorate had also announced for KG and Class-1 admission for the academic session 2025-26. But very few private schools have given this information. Parents are confused because even information about admission forms is not visible in many schools. Their complaint is that most of the schools have not given information about the vacant seats and admission criteria for KG and Class-1. Whereas, private schools say that only the same schools have given information about the KG and Class-1 admission process. , where admission starts from these classes only or they are going to increase the seats. The rest take admission in these classes from December to April according to the vacant seats.

KG, Class 1 Admission Delhi: What is the reality?

Some private schools in Delhi have straight KG or Class-1 instead of nursery. Such schools have also given information about the admission process of these classes on their website. For example, DPS Mathura Road, where there is nursery and class-1, not KG. There are 44 seats in Class-1 in the school, out of which only 22 seats are general. Similarly, Manavsthali School, Rajinder Nagar does not have nursery and KG but has Class-1.

RC Jain, President of Delhi State Public Schools Management Association, says, ‘At present, only those schools have information about KG and Class-1 seats in which admissions start from these classes. Second, schools which are increasing some seats in KG or Class-1 or creating a new section. In other schools, children go ahead after being promoted from the previous class. In such a situation, counting seats remain vacant in KG and first class.

Indian School Principal Tanya Joshi also says that ‘There are very few seats in Kindergarten and Class 1. Because children already studying in nursery and KG in the school are promoted in these classes. The seats of those children who leave school will be vacant in these classes. When seats become vacant, we give information about them on the website.

When do KG, Class-1 seats become vacant in Delhi?

RC Jain says, ‘Most schools get information about vacant seats for these two classes in March-April. When parents change schools. The competition for admission is only among those 200. In the remaining 1500 schools, there is scope for admission in all classes including nursery, KG and class-1. In these, admission increases when the seats of renowned schools are filled. That means in March-April. For this reason, Delhi High Court had also allowed private schools to continue the admission process till July.

At the same time, education activist Khagesh Jha says that ‘How many seats are there in KG and Class-1, information about vacant seats and whenever a seat becomes vacant, it should be available on the schools’ website. But, the problem is that everyone’s eyes are on the nursery. Schools conduct admissions in KG and Class-1 without transparency. It is not even known whether the draw took place or not. Schools simply collect forms from parents.
