SC granted bail to the main accused in the sexual harassment case of the actress, Justice Hema Committee was formed later


The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to Sunil NS, the prime accused in the 2017 attack on an actress in Kerala. Actor Dileep is also an accused in this case. A bench of Justices AS Oka and Pankaj Mithal was hearing Sunil’s petition challenging the Kerala High Court’s order rejecting his/her bail plea in the case. Sunil is also known as ‘Pulsar Suni’. The bench considered the long imprisonment period of Sunil NS alias Pulsar Suni of more than 7 years and also said that the trial is unlikely to end soon. The Supreme Court said that Sunil should be produced before the lower court within a week to fix the bail conditions for his/her release. It was said that the prosecution can present arguments in the lower court to impose strict conditions for his/her release on bail.

The actress was kidnapped and molested

The actress, who has worked in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films, was kidnapped by some people on the night of 17 February 2017 and was allegedly molested in a car for about two hours. Later they fled. The accused made a video of the entire incident to blackmail the actress.

Actor Dilip had already got bail

The police arrested several people in connection with the case. Dileep was also arrested in the case and later released on bail. The High Court in its order dated June 3 rejected his/her bail plea and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him/her.

Justice Hema Committee was formed after this case

After this case, Justice Hema Committee was formed in the year 2019. Under the pressure of this incident, the Kerala government formed a three-member committee headed by retired judge K Hema, former actress Sharada and retired IAS KB Valsala Kumari. It was named Justice Hema Committee. In this report, interviews were taken from artists, actors, directors to technicians, producers, film organizations and WCC members working in the Malayalam film industry. An attempt was made to estimate the status of women in the industry from these interviews. It took two years to make it. On 31 December 2019, Justice Hema Committee submitted its report to the government and it was released on 18 August 2024. After which there was a sensation in the film industry. Many shocking revelations were made.
