SBI’s special report came amidst the ongoing discussion regarding H-1B visa, know what is written in it

US H-1B Visa Restrictions: After the return of America’s new President Donald Trump, there is a strong discussion that changes will be made in the immigration policy. There is maximum scope for changes in H-1B visa, which is going to impact Indian citizens. However, the Trump government’s decision may have a negative impact on Indians thinking of settling in America, but it will have a positive impact on India. These things have been said in a report of State Bank of India (SBI).
SBI report says that India is going to become self-reliant due to possible H-1B visa restrictions of Donald Trump. It said that stringent visa rules mean that the costs of IT companies operating in America will increase. For this reason they will focus on local manufacturing and economic independence. Companies have to pay higher salaries when hired in America, but instead of sending people abroad through H-1B visa, they can employ people right here in India.

According to the report, “Strict H-1B rules could increase costs for Indian IT companies in the US. They could potentially reduce the movement of workers to the US and force these companies to hire people locally with higher salaries.” There may be pressure to keep it.” It further says, “On the other hand, this change will lead to improvement in India’s domestic production, self-reliance and foreign investment.”

What is H-1B visa program?

Through the H-1B visa program, American companies invite skilled foreign professionals to the country to do specialized work. Special degrees are also required to do these jobs. According to the US Labor Department, the purpose of this visa is to recruit foreign workers in America for those jobs for which there are no people in the country to do them. Every year America issues 65 thousand H-1B visas. Apart from this, 20 thousand visas are given to people studying in America.

What is Trump’s stance on H-1B visa?

Donald Trump has always criticized the H-1B visa program. They claim that because of this American workers are unable to get jobs. During his/her previous tenure, the rejection rate of H-1B visa had increased significantly. In such a situation, Indian IT companies were facing difficulty in hiring people. In 2020, the Trump government had increased the salary limit for granting H-1B visas, but the US court had stayed this decision.

The SBI report said that during the initial tenure of Trump, the non-immigrant visa issued to Indians every year remained stable at 10 lakh. However, in 2023, the number of non-immigrant visas given to Indians increased to 14 lakh. The report said, “America wants to protect its workforce. In such a situation, India also wants to increase its domestic production capacity and is thinking of making investment more attractive.”
