New Delhi. West Indies’ Brian Lara was considered a charismatic batsman of cricket. Once he/she was set on the pitch, he/she was famous for playing long innings. Apart from the highest individual score in Test cricket (400*), the record for the highest individual score in first class cricket (501*) is also registered in the name of this left-handed batsman. Lara, who ruled the hearts of fans with his/her free flow batting, played an innings of 375 runs in April 1994 against England in the St. John’s Test, breaking the record of 365 runs of West Indies’ Gary Sobers, but in October 2003, Australia’s Matthew Hayden broke Lara’s record by scoring 380 runs against Zimbabwe. Lara took the breaking of his/her record as a challenge and in April 2004, he/she again wrote this record in his/her name by scoring an unbeaten 400 runs against England in St. John’s.

In June 1994, Lara made the highest score in first class cricket and achieved the feat of scoring more than 500 runs for the first time. In the English county, he/she played an unbeaten innings of 501 runs for Warwickshire against Durham and broke the record of Pakistan’s Hanif Mohammad. In January 1959, while playing for Karachi, Hanif scored 499 runs against Bahawalpur and was run out while trying to complete 500 runs.

After his/her career as a player ended, he/she became a coach. he/she died under suspicious circumstances in West Indies while coaching the Pakistan team during the World Cup 2007. The mystery of Woolmer’s death remains unsolved even after 17 years.

When Hanif played an innings of 499 runs in Karachi in 1959, Bob Woolmer’s father was serving in Pakistan. Bob, who was about 11 years old, reached the ground to see this innings. When Hanif missed out on scoring 500 runs by getting run out at a score of 499, little Bob was very sad. In this match played from 8 to 12 January, while batting first, Bahawalpur team was all out at 185 runs, in response to which Karachi declared the innings at 772 runs for 7 wickets. Hanif scored 499 runs while spending 635 minutes on the wicket and returned to the pavilion after getting run out. Under the burden of a huge lead of 587 runs, Bahawalpur’s second innings was reduced to 108 runs and Karachi won the match by a huge margin of an innings and 479 runs.

On missing the catch, Scott said sadly – Oh, now he/she will score a century but Scott had anticipated less loss. Even after completing the century, Lara’s bat’s havoc continued and he/she stopped only after reaching the ‘Himalayan’ score of 501 runs.
