Sushma shared the story
India launched Operation Rahat on 1 April 2015 under the supervision of Sushma Swaraj. Bombs were raining from the sky in Yemen and the lives of more than four thousand Indians were stuck on the ground. It was a very difficult task to get Indians out of the war in Yemen. Late minister Sushma had associated with backdoor diplomacy in a program in the year 2018.
Sushma said that often people ask the same question that what is achieved by so many foreign visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi? During this, Sushma had shared an anecdote related to the war in Yemen. Sushma had told that at that time shells were raining from the sky in Yemen, robbers were sitting in the sea and war was going on on the land. It was very difficult to get the Indians out amidst the difficulties faced by water, land and sky. According to Sushma, all the three roads were closed and she could not understand what to do.
Bombardment stopped for two hours
After this, Sushma said, ‘At the same time I remembered that PM Modi had a brief meeting with Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz in Brisbane, Australia. I immediately went to the PM and told him/her to call her. Sushma had told the PM that she has good friendship with the Saudi King and requested the Sultan to stop the war for seven days. If he/she does so, then all Indians will be taken out.
On this, PM Modi assured him/her to talk to the Saudi King. PM Modi spoke to the King and the Sultan sought an hour’s time from him/her. After an hour Sultan called him/her. Sultan told PM Modi, ‘I have spoken to my people and the war cannot be stopped for seven days. But the bombardment will stop for two hours every day and this will be done for the next one week.

When PM Modi told this to Sushma, the former foreign minister replied that two hours is enough. After this, the second challenge was to open the airport and this obstacle was also removed. The airport promised to give passage to India for two hours. After this retired General and former Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh was sent to Yemen.
