Breast augmentation surgery is also known as augmentation mammoplasty. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure in which implants and fatty tissue are inserted by making incisions in the breast. This increases the size and shape of any woman’s breast.
This surgery is done with the help of a certified plastic surgeon. Usually breast augmentation is done through artificial implants made of salt water or silicone. Many women resort to this to make their look attractive and increase their confidence.

Difficult to detect breast cancer

The biggest disadvantage of breast augmentation surgery is that cancer cannot be detected after mammography test. In most of the cases, implants filled with silicone and saline distort the mammogram image. This makes it difficult to identify the location of the lesion in the breast. After surgery, the patient is advised to get a mammogram done. This is important because after this there is a risk of developing a cancer called anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).
