New Delhi: Two women officers of the Indian Navy, Lieutenant Commander Rupa and Lieutenant Commander Dilna, started their journey of Sagar Parikrama from Goa. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi flagged off Navika Sagar Parikrama-2. INSV Tarini is a 17 meter long and 5 meter wide boat. Boarding it, two women officers of the Navy will circumnavigate the world by sea. Dilna and Rupa will complete the journey of 21,600 nautical miles by sailing the boat with the help of wind in the sea for 8 months. During this time they will face high seas, extreme weather conditions and it will also be a test of human endurance.

This is the second edition of Navika Sagar Parikrama of the Indian Navy. Earlier, in 2017, six women officers of the Navy had completed circumnavigation (circumnavigation of the world by sea). For circumnavigation it is necessary to end the journey at the same port from where it started. Do not pass through any canal or strait. The equator must be crossed at least twice.

This journey should be at least 21,600 nautical miles (40100 kilometers). One will have to pass through three capes, which include Cape Leuven of Australia, Cape Horn of South America and Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. Also the International Date Line will have to be crossed. The Navy said Sagar Parikrama will be a difficult journey, requiring extreme skill, physical fitness and mental alertness. The women officers have been undergoing rigorous training and have gained thousands of miles of experience.
