Road Accidents: A lot of challans were issued in this city of India, road accidents, death rate decreased by 30 percent


Road accidents and deaths have come down by 30 per cent in Shimla district in the last five years as challans for road traffic violations acted as a solution. Police officials informed PTI about this. A total of 167 people died in 354 accidents in the district in 2022, which is markedly lower than the 245 deaths in 526 accidents in 2018.

According to the data received from the police department, there has been an increase of 30.5 percent in the number of challans issued during this period. Apart from effective challaning, other factors that help in reducing accidents include Road Accident Data Management System (Road Accident Data Management System), Intelligent Traffic Management System (Intelligent Traffic Management System) and analysis of data monitored through CCTV cameras. In the year 2022, maximum 1,83,612 challans were issued, of which drunken driving (3,448), using mobile while driving (5159) and over speeding (586) challans constituted five per cent of the total challans. The number of accidents came down to 354 last year, the lowest in the last 10 years, while the death rate is expected to come down from 189 in 2021 to 167 in 2022.

He was challaned under the Motor Vehicle Act on offenders to prevent repetition of the mistake, which included cases like abetment of injury, ignoring safety measures.

Of these, the highest number of accidents were observed on link roads, followed by state highways, national highways and major district roads, and motor cars comprised about 50 per cent of the accidents.
