Risk of heart attack and stroke increases for three years after Covid-19, connection with blood group also, read this report

New Delhi: A new research in America has revealed that the risk of heart attack, stroke and death due to Covid-19 infection can increase for three years. This risk is greater in those who have not taken the vaccine. The study also found that this risk was even greater at the beginning of the pandemic, when the original SARS-CoV-2 strain was widespread. This research has been released by America’s largest medical research agency, National Institute of Health (NIH).

Danger may persist after three years

This research included those who already had heart disease and those who did not. Research has shown that having Covid-19 increases the risk of heart problems. A similar claim was made in many earlier researches also. But this is the first research in which it has been shown that this danger can persist for three years after infection. This risk is higher in those who were infected during the first wave of the epidemic.

Who is at greater risk of heart disease?

Research found that people who were infected with COVID-19 early in the pandemic had twice the risk of heart disease compared to people who never had the virus. This risk was almost four times higher in severe COVID-19 cases. This research has been published in the journal ‘Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology’.

‘More research should be done now’

Dr. David Goff, director of the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences at NIH’s National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), said, ‘This research provides important information about the long-term heart disease and its effects of COVID-19. Is.’ he/she said that further research should be done to confirm these findings. This could help develop strategies to prevent heart disease in people who had severe cases of COVID-19.

What aspect of blood group?

A new aspect of the research is focusing on possible genetic links between blood type and increased risk of heart attack or stroke in severe COVID-19 patients. Research has found that people with A, B or AB blood group are more than twice as likely to have a heart attack or stroke after Covid-19. Whereas this risk is less in people with O blood group.

More than one billion people were infected with Covid-19

Experts found that the risk of heart events was twice as high among COVID-19 patients and four times as high for those with severe disease. This risk persisted during three years of follow-up. At times it was equal to or even greater than risk factors such as type 2 diabetes. Expert Hooman Alaye of the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine said that more than one billion people worldwide have been infected with Covid-19. he/she said, ‘The question now is whether severe Covid-19 should be considered another risk factor for heart disease or not. Like type 2 diabetes or peripheral artery disease, where the focus is on prevention of heart disease.
