‘Rishabh Pant will become a great player if…’, why did Sourav Ganguly say this before the Test series?

New Delhi. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly believes that Rishabh Pant is on his/her way to becoming an all-time great in Test cricket, but at the same time he/she needs to improve his/her performance in the shorter formats. Pant was on Sunday included in the Indian Test team for the first time after being injured in a car accident in December 2022 and is expected to be included in the playing XI for the first Test match against Bangladesh starting in Chennai on September 19.

Ganguly said during a program, “I consider Rishabh Pant to be one of India’s best Test batsmen. I am not surprised by his/her return to Test cricket. he/she will continue to play Test cricket for India. If he/she continues to perform like this, he/she will be included among the great players of Test cricket. I believe he/she needs to perform better in shorter formats. he/she is talented and I am sure he/she will be able to do so soon.”

he/she further said, “I know that Mohammed Shami is not in the team due to injury but he/she will return soon because India has to tour Australia. India’s attack is very good right now. I am waiting for India’s tour of Australia. The team will have a real test there. After this, the team has to tour England in July and both these tours will be very important. The presence of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj and the return of Shami will strengthen the Indian fast bowling attack then.”

Ganguly then said, “It is not easy to defeat Pakistan on its soil, so congratulations to the Bangladesh players. But the Indian team is different and it performs well both at home and abroad and its batting unit is very strong. I do not think Bangladesh will be able to win here. India will win the series. But India may get a tough challenge from Bangladesh because they are coming here with confidence after defeating Pakistan.
