Responsibility for the safety of Hindus will have to be taken… Amidst the tension, India gave a strict message to Bangladesh

New Delhi: Cases of atrocities against Hindu minorities are continuously increasing in Bangladesh. Recently, Chinmay Das, associated with ISKCON, was arrested by the government there on charges of treason. India has expressed concern over the situation of minorities in Bangladesh. The Foreign Ministry has also given a strict message to Bangladesh. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has said that the interim government of Bangladesh will have to fulfill its responsibility of protecting minorities. he/she also raised the issue of arrest of Chinmay Das.

‘Bangladesh will have to take the responsibility of protecting minorities’

On the situation of minorities in Bangladesh, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a press conference, ‘As far as the situation of Hindus and minorities in Bangladesh is concerned, we have made our protest very clear. India has consistently and strongly raised threats and targeted attacks on Hindus and other minorities with the Government of Bangladesh. The interim government should fulfill its responsibility of protecting all minorities. “We are concerned about the rise in extremist rhetoric…we call on Bangladesh to take steps to protect minorities.”

Talk was also held on the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das.

On the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh, Jaiswal said, ‘We see ISKCON as a globally reputed organization with a strong record of social service. As far as the arrest of Chinmoy Das is concerned, we have given our statement on that… Cases and legal processes are going on against the individuals. We expect these processes to be handled in a fair and transparent manner, ensuring full respect for these individuals and everyone concerned…’

On the supply of goods from India to Bangladesh, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, ‘The supply of goods from India to Bangladesh is continuing. And similarly, trade between Bangladesh and India continues in both directions.
