Remove objectionable posts within 24 hours, High Court orders X and Google on Om Birla’s daughter’s petition

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has directed ‘X Corp’ and ‘Google Inc’ to remove objectionable social media posts against Indian Railway Personal Service (IRPS) officer and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s daughter Anjali Birla within 24 hours. Justice Navin Chawla, while passing an interim order in the case on Tuesday, also restrained unknown parties from directly or indirectly posting, broadcasting, circulating, tweeting or retweeting defamatory material against petitioner Anjali Birla. The court has also issued notice to ‘X’, ‘Google’, Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and unknown parties in this case.Court gave order in defamation case
The High Court passed this order while hearing a defamation suit filed by Anjali. In the petition filed in this, Anjali requested for instructions to remove the posts on social media, which alleged that she passed the UPSC exam in the first attempt due to her father’s influence and became an IAS officer. Anjali’s lawyer told the court that she had given the UPSC Civil Service Examination (CSE) and was selected in 2019. She joined the Indian Railways as an IRPS officer.

In her petition, Anjali Birla claimed that derogatory social media posts were damaging her reputation and adversely affecting her position in public office. Anjali Birla had filed a defamation suit against the dissemination of misleading and false information about her. She has sought removal of posts put up against her on social media. Anjali, daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, took the UPSC exam in 2019. She completed her training last year in 2023. She is an IRPS officer. But, it was claimed on social media that Anjali is an IAS officer.
