Release of Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Punjab 95’ postponed, board imposed 120 cuts


Diljit Dosanjh’s fans are eagerly waiting for his/her film. But there is a disappointing news for them. The actor-singer has informed that his/her film will not be released on February 7. The release of ‘Punjab 95’ on the big screen has been postponed. This film based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra was to be released without any cuts in theaters across the world. But now we will have to wait longer for this. Dosanjh wrote on the social media app Instagram about the film’s release, ‘We regret that the film Punjab 95 will not be released on February 7 due to some reasons.’ Directed by Honey Trehan and produced under the banner of Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies, the film will showcase Khalra’s efforts for justice during terrorism in Punjab. Besides, his/her investigation into human rights violations and disappearance of Sikhs will also be portrayed very well on the screen.

Khalra was kidnapped and murdered in 1995. Six police officers were later convicted of his/her kidnapping and murder. The world premiere of ‘Punjab 95’ was to take place at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023, but it was removed from the list by the organizers without any information. Apart from Diljit, Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky are also working in this film.

Khalra’s wife was angry at CBFC

Khalra’s wife Paramjit Kaur Khalra had reacted to the 120 cuts imposed on the film by CBFC. Because the makers had also reached the High Court against these cuts. The wife had criticized the board’s decision and said that the biopic was made with the approval of the family. It should be released without any changes. However, now it seems that the film will have to wait longer to get the official green signal.
