The festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated every year as Krishna Janmashtami. The day is celebrated by devotees of Krishna across the country, making it one of the most colorful festivals with colors, sweets, flowers and traditions like Dahi Handi. On Janmashtami, grand celebrations are held in Krishna temples across the country to mark the birth of Lord Krishna at midnight. Today we are going to tell you about some of the holy Krishna temples of India, which have great beliefs. One of which is built at the same place which used to be a jail and it was there that Lord Krishna was born. Sri Banke Bihari Temple is one of the main temples of Lord Krishna in Vrindavan. It was built in 1863 by the Goswamis and the idol was brought from Nidhivan. Mangala Aarti is performed only once a year at the Sri Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan. A huge crowd of devotees gathers for the Mangala Aarti on the day of Sri Krishna Janmashtami.

One of the pilgrimage sites of the famous Char Dham Yatra, the Jagannath Temple is India’s most famous temple of Lord Krishna. On the occasion of Puri Rath Yatra, the three deities (Krishna, his/her brother Balarama and sister Subhadra) are pulled by devotees in their chariots and taken to the Gundicha Temple. On the day of Janmashtami, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are given a ceremonial bath and dressed as the child form of Krishna.1

The Krishna Janmabhoomi temple is built at the same place where there was once a prison where Lord Krishna was born.
