Ranji Trophy: Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant century, Suryakumar Yadav flopped, how was the second day of Ranji?


New Delhi. On the second day of Ranji Trophy, Ruturaj Gaikwad made a brilliant effort to give Maharashtra a comeback by scoring unbeaten 80 runs on Saturday, October 19, but his/her team is still behind by 173 runs in the Ranji Trophy Group A match against Mumbai. At the end of the second day’s play, Maharashtra scored 142 runs for one wicket in its second innings. At the time of the stump being uprooted, Sachin Dhas was playing with Gaikwad after scoring 59 runs.

Earlier, defending champion Mumbai had taken a huge lead of 315 runs by scoring 441 runs in the first innings. he/she had bowled out Maharashtra for only 126 runs in the first innings. Mumbai progressed its first innings in the morning by 220 runs for three wickets. From his/her side, 17 year old opening batsman Ayush Mhatre played a big inning of 176 runs. This is only his/her third first-class match. While India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav faced disappointment as he/she was out for seven runs, Iyer scored 142 runs in 190 balls with the help of 12 fours and four sixes.

In another match of Group A being played in Delhi, Baroda declared its first innings over after scoring 477 runs for six wickets. In response, the Army team had scored 74 runs for two wickets by the end of the second day’s play and thus its team is 403 runs behind Baroda. In another match, Tripura made a strong comeback against Meghalaya after initial setbacks on the rain-affected first day and scored 346 runs for six wickets at stumps on the second day.

In the ongoing match in Cuttack, Odisha has scored 198 runs for five wickets in its first innings by the end of the second day’s play in reply to Jammu and Kashmir’s 270 runs. Its experienced batsman Govinda Poddar is playing after scoring 87 runs. On the second day of another match, Himachal Pradesh lost five wickets due to which the host team was reduced to 98 runs in the first innings and Rajasthan gave it follow on. India’s 32-year-old Chahar took five wickets for 30 runs as Himachal Pradesh was reduced to within 100 runs in reply to Rajasthan’s 334 runs in the first innings. Till stump, Himachal Pradesh scored 147 runs after losing two wickets and is still trailing by 89 runs.

Himachal Pradesh lost the wickets of its top four batsmen in the first innings who were out for less than 10 and their score was 19 runs for four wickets. When the score was 51 runs for seven wickets, then captain Dhawan and Arpit Guleria (17) made a partnership of 40 runs. Guleria became the victim of Aniket Chaudhary. Dhawan’s team was reduced to 98 runs and the captain remained unbeaten after scoring 40 runs. Chahar got good support from Chaudhary (three wickets for 28 runs).

In another group match in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, after scoring 367 runs in the first innings with the half-centuries of Chintan Gaja (92 runs) and Arjan Nagwaswala (82 runs not out), took five wickets till Andhra’s 137 runs, for which KS Bharat Played a half-century inning of 78 runs. Gujarat team still has a lead of 230 runs as per the first innings.

In reply to Uttarakhand’s 325 runs in the first innings in Dehradun, Hyderabad team is trailing by 81 runs after scoring 244 runs for five wickets. For Uttarakhand, Avnish Sudha scored 89 runs and Aditya Tare scored 69 runs. Whereas for Hyderabad, K Himteja was out after scoring 78 runs while Rahul Radesh is batting after scoring 82 runs. In Puducherry, Vidarbha’s first innings was limited to 283 runs, which included a century by Yash Rathod (118 runs) and a half-century by Harsh Dubey (76 runs). In reply, Puducherry has scored 45 runs after losing one wicket and is behind by 238 runs as per the first innings.
