Ramesh Sippy did not direct the entire ‘Sholay’, Sachin Pilgaonkar revealed after 49 years,


The film ‘Sholay’ is considered to be the biggest film of Indian cinema as well as Ramesh Sippy’s career. This film, released in the year 1975, had a budget of Rs 3 crore, and earned Rs 35 crore. ‘Sholay’ is considered the best among the films directed by Ramesh Sippy. But now actor Sachin Pilgaonkar has made a shocking revelation. The actor says that Ramesh Sippy did not direct the entire ‘Sholay’. Sachin Pilgaonkar told that most of the part of ‘Sholay’ was directed by him/her and Amjad Khan. Sachin revealed in a YouTube interview given to Kunal Vijaykar that he/she and Amjad Khan had directed many scenes of Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra.

Sachin Pilgaonkar said, ‘Rameshji decided to hire a second unit to do some action sequences that did not have lead stars. These were just passing shots. For this he/she hired stunt film director Mohammad Ali Bhai. he/she was a well-known stunt filmmaker, and with him/her was action director Azim Bhai.

‘Amjad Khan and I were useless’

Sachin Pilgaonkar further said, ‘he/she brought two more people from Hollywood – Jim and Jerry. Since both of them had come from abroad, Ramesh ji wanted two people from his/her side also, so that the foreign technicians could understand what was happening in the film. There were two useless people in the unit at that time. One was Amjad Khan and the other was me.

Ramesh Sippy used to shoot only the scenes of Dharmendra, Sanjeev and Sanjeev Kumar.

Sachin Pilgaonkar told that Ramesh Sippy used to come only to shoot the scenes of Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan, and he/she and Amjad Khan used to handle the rest of the work. While Amjad Khan played the role of Gabbar in the film, Sachin was seen in the role of Ahmed in it. Amitabh and Dharmendra played the role of Jai-Veeru.
