New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will be the Leader of Opposition in the 18th Lok Sabha. This decision has been taken in the India Alliance meeting. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal gave this information. According to the information, a meeting of India Alliance was held at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday night. In this meeting, there was a discussion about the election of the Speaker and the Leader of the Opposition. There was a consensus on the name of Rahul Gandhi for the Leader of the Opposition. Giving information, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said that Rahul Gandhi has been chosen as the Leader of the Opposition and a letter has been written to the Protem Speaker for this.

Rahul’s name was being discussed since the election results
This time in the Lok Sabha elections, the All India Alliance including Congress has performed well. In such a situation, after the results, the discussion of Rahul Gandhi becoming the leader of the opposition had intensified. Rahul Gandhi has also been continuously attacking the Modi government since the results. Be it the paper leak case or the pro tem speaker issue, Rahul Gandhi has fiercely targeted the government. The demand to make Rahul the leader of the opposition has been coming from within the Congress as well.

After ten years, he/she got the status of Leader of Opposition
Congress is getting the status of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha after a decade. Earlier in 2014 and 2019, Congress did not even have the strength to get the post of Leader of Opposition. In the first two terms of the Modi government, the main opposition party Congress could not even get 10 percent numbers in the House. However, in 2014 Mallikarjun Kharge and then in 2019 Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary were also unofficially made the Leader of Opposition. But this time Congress has won 99 seats on its own, due to which it has got the post of Leader of Opposition.
