Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra should resign…BJP challenges Congress on EVM

New Delhi: Congress is still not able to digest the defeat in Maharashtra elections. After the bumper victory of the BJP alliance in the assembly results, EVMs are once again the party’s target. Bharatiya Janata Party responded to Congress’s allegations today in a press conference. Gaurav Bhatia, on behalf of BJP, said that all the Chief Ministers and other elected representatives of the grand old party like Rahul Gandhi should first resign and declare that they will contest the elections only after bringing back the ballot papers.‘Congress will soon be confined to history books’
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said that such a stance shows his/her confidence in the issues being raised by him/her. According to Bhatia, otherwise the party’s allegations would be nothing but empty words. he/she also asked Congress to approach the courts on this issue. Gaurav Bhatia stressed that the Supreme Court has already given a clean chit to the Election Commission several times in recent years on the transparency of the electoral process and the integrity of the electoral voting machines. Bhatia said Congress chief ministers Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra should resign as they were elected through the same electoral process which the opposition party is questioning.

According to Bhatia, it was an irony to see Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge raising questions on the electoral process and EVMs on the same day Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took oath as the newly elected MP from Wayanad, Kerala. Bhatia said that Congress will soon be confined to history books.

Election Commission’s call to Congress
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance won a massive majority in the recently concluded Maharashtra Assembly elections by winning 233 seats in the 288-member House. The BJP on its own won 132 seats, while its allies Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) won 57 and 41 seats respectively. The Congress had written to the Election Commission alleging irregularities in the counting of votes and the number of votes polled, among other complaints. The apex election commission rejected the claims and has invited a delegation of the party to address the claims on 3 December.
