R Ashwin is going to get a big award after retirement.
R Ashwin Padma Shri: R Ashwin, who recently announced his/her retirement from international cricket, will be given the Padma Shri award. Indian hockey’s great goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has been selected for the Padma Bhushan award. Sreejesh is the second hockey player to receive Padma Bhushan after Major Dhyan Chand (1956). The players selected for Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian honour, include India’s great footballer IM Vijayan and Harvinder Singh, India’s first para athlete to win a gold medal in the Paralympics. Para athletics coach Satyapal Singh, who is also the coach of Paralympic gold medalist high jump para athlete Praveen Kumar, who received the Khel Ratna award, will also be awarded the Padma Shri.
Satyapal said, ‘I received this honor because of the trust reposed in me by so many people. I have been with Praveen Kumar since 2018 and a lot of credit goes to him/her for this award. Sreejesh, who retired from hockey after winning the second consecutive Olympic bronze medal in Paris, is currently the head coach of the Indian junior men’s team. Sreejesh, one of the greatest goalkeepers of Indian hockey, was instrumental in helping India win an Olympic medal in the Tokyo Olympics after 41 years. he/she played 336 matches in his/her 18-year career and also won the gold medal in the Asian Games twice.
Ashwin, who retired from international cricket in the middle of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, is the second bowler to take the most wickets for India in Test cricket. he/she took 537 wickets in 106 matches. Ashwin was a member of the team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. he/she was selected in the ICC Test Team of the Decade between 2011 and 2020. 33 year old Harvinder, known as ‘Ekalavya of Kaithal’, won the gold medal in the individual event in the recurve open category in the Paris Paralympics. Due to wrong injection given to him/her due to dengue in his/her childhood, his/her legs got deformed.
55-year-old Vijayan was the captain of India from 2000 to 2004 and was also the pivot of the Indian attack along with Bhaichung Bhutia. Padma Bhushan is the third highest civilian honor after Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan. This year, seven celebrities will be awarded Padma Vibhushan, 19 will be awarded Padma Bhushan and 113 will be awarded Padma Shri in various fields.
