Punjab 95 Teaser: What is Punjab paying for? Jaswant Singh Khalra became Diljeet, Arjun won hearts


The teaser of Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Punjab 95’ has been released. This glimpse of the flaming Punjab of the nineties and the story of the disappearance of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra is hair-raising. In the 1 minute 12 second teaser, we also get a glimpse of Arjun Rampal, who asks in his/her powerful voice, what is Punjab paying for? ‘Punjab 95’ has been in the news for almost two years. The reason for this is that this film had a long battle with the Censor Board. The matter of censorship and cutting of scenes in the film reached the High Court. However, now this film is going to be released in theaters next month on 7th February. The film has been directed by Honey Trehan, while Ronnie Screwvala is its producer.

Diljit wrote- Complete movie, no cuts!

While sharing the teaser, Punjabi singer and actor Diljit wrote on Twitter, ‘Entire movie, no cuts.’ This teaser starts with Arjun Rampal’s character, who says in his/her powerful voice, ‘Look at the history of Punjab, sir. Be it the masala of river water or Operation Bluestar, the assassination of Indira Gandhi or the riots of 1984, from President’s rule to the assassination of the Chief Minister and now… what price is Punjab paying for?

Nineties and missing people

After this, in the teaser we are told that many people are going missing from Punjab one after the other. Enters Diljit Dosanjh as human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who is investigating the disappearance of Sukhdev Singh.

Who was Jaswant Singh Khalra, the police exposed him/her

For information, let us tell you that Jaswant Singh Khalra had exposed more than 25,000 illegal killings, disappearances of people and secret cremations by the Punjab Police. In the year 1995, suddenly Jaswant Singh Khalra also went missing. Later his/her body was recovered. A case of murder, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy was registered against his/her wife Paramjeet Kaur. Interestingly, Punjab Police considered Khalra’s death as suicide. Whereas in 2005, after investigation, six Punjab Police officers were convicted for the kidnapping and murder of Khalra and were sentenced to seven years in prison.

Censor Board made 120 cuts in the film, makers reached court

CBFC had shown strictness regarding the film ‘Punjab 95’ and had reportedly imposed 120 cuts due to its sensitive subject matter. Due to this there was a tussle between the makers and the board. In the year 2022, this film was also shown to the family of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who expressed satisfaction over it and did not register any objection.
