Priyanka Gandhi is ready for her electoral debut! She may contest the by-election from Wayanad in place of her brother

New Delhi: During the Lok Sabha elections, there were speculations about Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra contesting from Wayanad. However, Priyanka refused to contest the elections, due to which the discussions calmed down. Rahul Gandhi again contested from Wayanad and won. But he/she has also won the election from Rae Bareli. After this, he/she can now leave the Wayanad seat. In such a situation, once again the discussion about Priyanka Gandhi contesting from Wayanad has intensified. Sources say that Congress can make Priyanka Gandhi a candidate in the Wayanad by-election.

Rahul Gandhi also hinted

The discussion of Priyanka Gandhi contesting the elections intensified when Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday that if his/her sister had contested against Prime Minister Modi in Varanasi, Modi would have lost by two-three lakh votes. Let us tell you that Rahul Gandhi has won Wayanad and Rae Bareli seats by a huge margin. There has been talk of Priyanka Gandhi contesting elections since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. At that time, speculations were being made that Priyanka could contest against PM Modi from Varanasi seat. After this, during the UP assembly elections in 2020, Priyanka Gandhi herself had said that she was not refusing to contest elections in UP. At that time she was the general secretary of UP Congress. With this statement, she also indicated that she could be the chief ministerial candidate from Congress. However, a few hours later, she distanced herself from her statement and said that she was joking.

There was also talk of Priyanka contesting the Lok Sabha elections

Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Sonia Gandhi left Rae Bareli. She was an MP from this seat since 2004. This time Sonia Gandhi has reached the Rajya Sabha. After Sonia Gandhi left the Rae Bareli seat, it was believed that Priyanka Gandhi would contest from this seat. It was said in the news that Priyanka Gandhi would contest from Rae Bareli and Rahul Gandhi from Amethi.

According to sources, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had also expressed his/her desire for Rahul and Priyanka to contest the elections. he/she had left this decision to the two siblings. Kharge had said that he/she wants both of them to contest the elections. If they do not contest from strong Congress strongholds, it will send a wrong message to the party workers, the parties of the INDIA alliance and the NDA.

Why did Priyanka Gandhi not contest the Lok Sabha elections?

However, Priyanka Gandhi decided not to contest the election. Sources close to her said that Priyanka decided not to contest the election because if she had won the election, the Gandhi family would have had three members in Parliament, which would have strengthened BJP’s allegations of nepotism. Priyanka Gandhi may not have contested the Lok Sabha elections, but she spent most of her time in Rae Bareli and Amethi. Congress won big in both these seats. Congress’s number of seats in UP increased from one to six. After the election results, Rahul Gandhi thanked the people of UP and praised his/her sister’s role in this victory.

Which seat to leave? Rahul faces dilemma

Priyanka Gandhi contesting the by-election from Wayanad will depend on whether Rahul Gandhi leaves this seat or not. In fact, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi lost from Amethi and reached Parliament due to the Wayanad seat. In such a situation, the decision to leave Wayanad and choose Rae Bareli will not be easy. Rahul himself said that he/she is in a dilemma and has not been able to take any decision regarding this yet. However, he/she said that whatever decision he/she takes, it will make the people of both the Lok Sabha constituencies happy. This statement was considered an indication that Rahul himself will choose the Rae Bareli seat and make his/her sister a candidate from Wayanad.

Two Congress leaders have also given statements regarding Rahul leaving the Wayanad seat. Newly elected MP from Amethi Kishori Lal Sharma appealed to Rahul Gandhi to remain MP from Rae Bareli, while Kerala Congress Committee chief K. Sudhakaran has indicated that the leader may leave the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. Let us tell you that by-elections will be held within six months of Rahul Gandhi vacating the seat.
