Prime Minister Modi will visit Kashmir on January 13, will inaugurate Sonamarg Tunnel, know what will be the benefits


New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Will be on a tour of Jammu and Kashmir on January 13. During this time the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Sonamarg Tunnel. According to officials, the entire project including this 12 kilometer long tunnel has cost more than Rs 2,700 crore. It consists of the Sonamarg main tunnel, an exit tunnel and link road. Located at an altitude of 8,650 feet above sea level, this tunnel will facilitate all-weather traffic between Srinagar and Sonamarg to Leh.

PM Modi has given information about his/her Kashmir tour in a post made on ‘X’. PM Modi tweeted while reacting to a comment by Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah. Earlier, Omar Abdullah visited there to review preparations for his/her visit and shared some photos and videos.

Omar Abdullah said that with the inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel, Sonamarg will be open for tourists throughout the year. Sonamarg will now develop into a great ski resort. Local people will not have to go out in winters and travel time from Srinagar to Kargil/Leh will also be reduced.

Responding to Abdullah’s tweet, PM Modi said that I am eagerly looking forward to my visit to Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir for the inauguration of the tunnel. You are right about tourism and its benefits for the local economy. Also, liked the aerial photos and videos very much.

Sonmarg project will increase tourism

The official statement said the project will boost tourism by turning Sonamarg into an all-year-round destination, thereby boosting winter tourism, adventure sports and local livelihoods. With the Zojila Tunnel scheduled for completion by 2028, it will reduce the length of the route from 49 km to 43 km. The speed of vehicles will also increase from 30 km/hr to 70 km/hr. This will ensure faster NH-1 connectivity between Srinagar Valley and Ladakh.

Connectivity will boost defense supplies

The statement said that this increased connectivity will boost defense supplies. Economic development and socio-cultural integration will be promoted in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. It said the Prime Minister will also meet the workers involved in the construction of the project, who have worked meticulously under harsh conditions, acknowledging their contribution to this engineering achievement.
